I'm Back!!!

HOLY MOLY MACARONI AND CHEESE, I'm so sorry for being gone so long. With school and stuff, it was really hard to post anything. Hopefully I should be going back to posting regularly.

A few announcements:

1: The Heroes' Inheritance is still happening! I've been working on writing the next chapter and will try to get it up soon. I know I left y'all on a big cliffhanger last time, and I'm sorry:) (Who am I kidding, I'm not sorry.)

2: I now have a FanFiction account! For those of you who like that sort of thing, anyway. I'll be writing fanfics for Harry Potter, Star Wars, How to Train Your Dragon, and Teen Titans, among others. I've already put up the first chapter of my first story:)

I think that's all I've got...

Peace out.

The Heroes Inheritance- Chapter Eight!

AT LAST. Sorry this one took so long to write, but it's done now... Lemme know what you think!

Chapter Eight
Conflict

Mark woke with a start.
His entire body throbbed with pain. His head pounded dully, and it felt like someone inside his head was smacking the inside of his skull with a mallet, trying to get out. Squeezing his eyes shut against the pain, he shifted, and his bare back rubbed against the ground.
Wait… why was he lying on the ground? He opened his eyes again, and realized he was in the forest, lying flat on his back in a makeshift lean-to, the roof of which was made of branches stacked neatly against the trunk of a huge oak. Through gaps in the branches he could see trees swaying in the wind above him.
He started to push himself up on one elbow, then groaned aloud as pain shot through his ribs. He vaguely recalled the events of the previous night, but despite his certainty that it had been real, he held on to the foolish wish that it had all been a dream. Gingerly, he sat up, cradling his ribs. He felt pressure there, and glanced down at his chest to see the bloodstained bandage wrapped around his torso. He remembered the feeling of his bones snapping as Anduin’s tail hit his body, and grimaced.
“Mark? Are you all right?”
He twisted to see Mara poking her head inside the lean-to. The sight of his sister, dirty and disheveled though she was, gave him a sense of relative security. If Mara was there, they could get through this. If Mara were with him, he would be fine.
“I’ve been better,” he told her honestly. “Can- can you help me up?” He felt a bit awkward, asking his sister for help. But there was no way he was getting to his feet by himself.
Nodding, she stooped and slid an arm around his shoulders. He bit his lip and his breath hissed out between his teeth as he slowly stood. He had to stoop slightly in the low-ceilinged lean-to, and when he hit his head on one of the branches, he cursed quietly. Mara gave him a reproachful look and handed him a shirt.
Ignoring the expression she gave him, Mark glanced at the lean-to. “Who built this?” he inquired.
“Adam did it,” she replied. “He wouldn’t let me help.”
“I tried to let you help,” Adam’s voice said from nearby. He was sitting against a tree, watching them.
Mark twisted to look at his cousin and raised an eyebrow. “Which is it?” he asked.
Adam shrugged. “I dunno. You know women. They take everything the wrong way.”
Mara rolled her eyes. She turned to duck inside the lean-to, and stubbed her toe on a tree root. “Oh, dash it all!” she hissed.
“This from the one who scolded me for cursing?” Mark sked dryly.
“He’s right,” Adam put in unhelpfully.
Mara rolled her eyes. She turned to Mark once more, but he wasn’t paying attention. He glanced around the small clearing and frowned. “Where’s Aunt Marianna?”
Mara’s smile faded slowly and she looked at the ground. “She’s gone.”
“Gone? What do you mean, gone?” Mark demanded. “Where did she go?”
Adam stood abruptly. “Captured,” he replied. “Swiftviper has her. Or she’s dead. We’re not sure.”
“Oh, Father, no,” Mark breathed, closing his eyes. “How did it happen?”
“We thought she could take care of it,” Adam said, his eyes on the ground. “Mum said she could handle the girl, after all, she was almost defeated. She told us to run… said she could handle it.”
He wasn’t making any sense. Mark glared at him. “What did you do?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.
“I… we left her,” Adam whispered. “She told us to run and we did.”
“You left her?” Mark demanded, his voice rising in pitch.
Mara and Adam were silent.
“Why the hell would you leave her? She’s no warrior. Sure, she handled that staff all right, but she was facing two wizards!”
“I- William was down!” Mara said helplessly. “We thought he was unconscious, and the girl was weak already- we thought-”
“Obviously you didn’t, though!” Mark replied angrily. “If you had really thought about it, you wouldn’t have left! She could be dead, for all we know, because you abandoned her! Do you even know what Mum, Dad, and Uncle Caleb are facing right now in K’Raya?” His voice broke and he swallowed past the lump in his throat as he looked around at his sister and cousin.
Adam took a deep breath. “Yeah, Mark, we know.”
Mark turned on him. “No. No, you don’t.” He could barely speak the next words. “They’re being tortured. They’re used to pain by now; they’ve been in that hell of a fortress for THREE YEARS! Do you think Aunt Marianna is used to that kind of pain? Because she’ll be next. For all we know, she could already be dead. What if she knows the secret the Dark Wizards are trying to discover? Do you think she would be able to resist the kind of interrogation Swiftviper will subject her to?”
Mara was crying, but Mark was too furious to care. “She was our only hope of finding Liphaeum. Not only that, she’s been there for us our whole lives, and when it really counted, you abandoned her.”
Mara let out a hoarse sob and Adam’s face turned red as he took a step towards his cousin. “Now, you listen. We did as she told us-”
Exactly! When has Marianna ever put her own needs first? Of course she told you to go on without her; we were all in danger.”
He held their ashamed gazes for a long moment, then sighed bitterly, turning away. “Get your things. We need to get moving,” he spat over his shoulder at the two of them, before ducking back into the lean-to.

***

Marianna was in total darkness.
Upon arriving at K’Raya in the claws of a dragon who had been summoned by William, she had been wrestled through the doors of the fortress. Keeping his hold on Marianna’s arms, William made a small signal and they were instantly surrounded by four fully armed guards. “The dungeon,” he said briefly.
Marianna didn’t struggle as she was forced down several flights of stairs, down several hallways, and through several doors.
William strode along a row of cells. “Here, I think,” her captor murmured. “A little… family reunion.”
He thrust her forward through the door, and it slammed shut behind her with a clang. She landed awkwardly against the wall, then slowly sat down. Now that the light of the guards’ torches was gone, she was in complete darkness.
“Is- is anyone there?” she called softly.
“Marianna?” asked a man’s voice. She knew that voice; she had last heard it three years ago, the day its owner had been taken from her.
Sure enough, seconds later she found herself wrapped in the arms of Caleb Farlander. His grip was surprisingly weak, she realized when he kissed her. “What’s happened to you, love?” she asked. “Where are the others?”
She could hear the note of resignation in his voice. “They were taken hours ago to be questioned.” She could tell from his tone that ‘questioned’ really meant ‘tortured.’
Caleb stiffened suddenly. “What of the children?’
“They escaped,” she breathed. “I sent a message to Matthias. He will help them.”
He sighed. “Then they should be fine.”
“Swiftviper did say he might send murlemas after them,” she continued after a moment. “But Mark and Adam have faced those before, haven’t they?”
Caleb nodded. Murlemas occasionally strayed into the forestlands at the edge of the mountains, and once he, along with Emil and the thirteen-year-old boys, had joined the villagers to kill the beast. “They should be fine…” he trailed off, sounding unconvinced. “But I hope they reach Liphaeum soon.”
“They will.”
She looked into her husband’s eyes and kissed him again. Yes, she was scared of what might happen to her, but in this moment, they were both okay. No matter what happened, the two of them had been reunited, even if it would be for the last time. They fell sleep like that, cradled in each other’s arms.

***

A kick to the shin woke Caleb Farlander.
“Up, both of you. Now.”
His eyes flew open and he saw his wife sitting up dazedly, looking confused as she took in the sight of four guards standing outside the cell. Then comprehension dawned on her face and fear filled her green eyes. Caleb at first felt only the same resigned dread of what was about to happen, but of course Marianna didn’t know about this particular routine.
“Please… leave her out of this,” Caleb pleaded, standing. “She won’t be able to tell you anything-” He was cut off abruptly as a fist slammed into his jaw, knocking him backward. Marianna let out a soft squeak of surprise and reached towards him, only to be yanked to her feet as well.
“Lord Swiftviper summoned both of you, and both of you will come,” replied one guard briefly. “Now come along.”
The two of them were wrestled out of the cell and down a long hallway. Caleb knew where they were headed- he had been this way before, too many times.
Finally they reached a door. Upon being led inside, Marianna gaped as she saw two faces she hadn’t seen in years. “…Naia?” she breathed. “Emil?”

*hyperventilates* I'M SO EXCITED. Is it weird for me to fangirl over my own story? This one is intense!

What will happen to Marianna? Will Mark and the others get along again- ever? When will we ever catch a glimpse of the mysterious Andrew Swiftviper? And what in the world are 'Murlemas'?

Until next time,

Very Short Labyrinth Rant and Percy Jackson stuff!

Hello all my lovely peoples.

I'M SO SORRY FOR NOT POSTING. SERIOUSLY. IT'S BEEN A MONTH. I MISSED IT.

But I had a very good excuse. My life has been a little hectic recently, and I'm about to start school (Two weeks early, I know. It's not fair.) So I didn't post. Please forgive me.

Also, I want to apologize for not posting the next chapter of the Heroes' Inheritance. I know I kinda left y'all at a major cliffhanger... I'm still writing it, don't worry! I'll put up Chapter Seven as soon as I can.

Does anyone watch Jim Henson's The Labyrinth?

I seriously love that movie. It's one of those things that's so weird and cheesy its endearing. Like the Princess Bride. Or Bohemian Rhapsody.

And seriously, if you haven't seen it, don't judge it by the pictures of the characters. Especially *hem hem* The Goblin King *hem hem*.

I made the mistake of telling my friend to look it up... and I'll just give one warning. Some people have an unhealthy love for... how shall I put this... very tight clothing. Ahem.

Anyway, I reached the movie. Labyrinth fangirls (and fanboys, those are a thing, right?) are hard to find, so, if you are one, COMMENT AND LET ME KNOW! I'm all alone in the fandom. *wipes away tears*

Okay, I wanna show ya some MEMES and things. Particularly memes of or pertaining to another one of my fandoms, Percy Jackson! If you don't get any of these, go read the books. DO NOT WATCH THE MOVIES, THEY STINK AND DESERVE TO ROT IN THE DEPTHS OF TARTARUS WITH KRONOS HIMSELF.

Ahem. Email me your book/movie fandoms and if I'm part of them, I may write a post about them too!

Nico's is the best.

Lol! Percy's way cooler than Hercules!

EXACTLY!

Rachel Elizabeth Dare, anybody?

Which of these is your favorite? Comment and let me know!

Now I have to go eat food, because food is good. Also necessary for life.

Elena out.

Star Wars: (Warning- this could possibly become a very long rant. Also, spoiler alert.)

Okay, folks. I am a Star Wars fan. Perhaps that's an understatement. I just got The Force Awakens from the library and I HAVE LITERALLY SEEN THAT MOVIE LIKE SIX OR SEVEN TIMES THESE LAST TWO WEEKS. I was babysitting my siblings and it occurred to me that when I babysit, one can pretty much guarantee that we will watch that movie at least once. If we have it on hand. I need to just buy the thing.
Oh, and there will be spoilers.
But today I'm here to talk about something that has made me WAY TOO EXCITED. Fan theories.
And i will mention every important TFA theory i know of. You don't believe me, do you?
Image result for star wars reaction gifs
Incredibly so.

Rey Theories

Fan Theory #1: Rey is a Solo
Okay, how is this even possible? Think about it. If Rey was Han and Leia's daughter, then since she is force-sensitive, she would also have been sent to train with Luke at the Jedi Academy. Ben Solo (Kylo Ren) is 29 in TFA and Rey is 19. Kylo Ren betrayed Luke and destroyed the academy when he was around 20 years old, which means at that time, Rey was about 10 years old. SO KYLO WOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT HIS SISTER. HE WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHO REY WAS IN THE MOVIE WHEN HE CAPTURES HER. ALSO HAN AND LEIA WOULD PROBABLY HAVE MENTIONED IT.

Image result for star wars kylo ren reaction gifs

Unless of course he believed that Rey had been killed... judging by his overall character, at that point he wouldn't have killed his own sister, so he probably thought one of the other Knights of Ren had done it. And in that case, he probably would have recognized her, with the Force, at least.
Or maybe he spared her on purpose and left her on Jakku, where he believed he would never see her again.
And does anyone remember this moment?

Image result for i never knew there was so much green in the whole galaxy rey meme

OH THE GUILT ON HIS FACE. Maybe he knows who she is. Maybe he knew from the very beginning.

Fan Theory #2: Rey is a Skywalker
This one makes slightly more sense. What if Luke had a child? That could have contributed to his disappearance after Kylo's betrayal. If he believed his own child had been killed, he would have felt even more guilt about his own 'failure.' Again, Kylo could have spared his cousin and left her on Jakku. He would have recognized her.

Fan Theory #3: Rey is a Kenobi
This is actually distinctly possible. Maybe Obi-Wan didn't judge Anakin and Padme because HE WAS IN LOVE TOO? Maybe he had a kid who had a kid who was Rey? Obi-Wan's past before becoming the apprentice of Qui-Gon Jinn was never elaborated upon. Maybe he had siblings who were force-sensitive and Rey is one of their descendants.

Fan Theory #4: Rey is not a Solo, Skywalker, OR Kenobi
HEY GUYS. MAYBE SHE'S JUST A RANDOM PERSON WHO WAS DROPPED OFF ON JAKKU BY HER DIRTBAG PARENTS. OR SHE'S JUST A SURVIVOR OF THE JEDI ACADEMY WHO WAS DROPPED OFF BY LUKE, KYLO, OR SOMEONE ELSE.

Finn Theories

Fan Theory #5: Finn is a Jedi

Related image
ABSOLUTELY! He handled that lightsaber surprisingly well under the circumstances, though he was defeated by Kylo in the duel at Starkiller Base. But it doesn't look like Disney will follow through and make the guy a Jedi. Heck, he might not even be alive that much longer.

Han Theories

Fan Theory #6: Han's Still Alive
Sorry, folks. He's DEAD. Very much so. Even if he didn't die from his wounds, that fall was nasty.

*cries profusely* NOOOOOO! HAN!

Image result for han solo death rey gif

He's dead.
Sorry.

Kylo Ren Theories

Fan Theory #7: He's a terrible person, a cold-blooded killer who has no hope of turning to the light.

Image result for star wars kylo ren reaction gifs

Hate to break it to you, KYLO REN STILL HAS A CHANCE. You can see his mixed emotions throughout the movie, when he captures and interrogates Rey, when he clashes with Hux, when he is ordered to bring Rey to Snoke, and even before he kills his father. Even when he duels Rey later, is appears as though he is holding back. He doesn't want to kill her. In fact, he's trying his hardest not to kill her. He wants her to join him. Poor guy probably hasn't talked to a girl in years.

Image result for you need a teacher kylo ren gif

Yeeeaaaaahhh. Like she's going to say yes when your lightsaber is inches from her face and you have her backed up against the edge of a cliff.
Like, "Ren, shove off. You may be hot but you don't know the first thing about asking a girl out." Then she proceeds to whip his arrogant behind in the coolest duel ever.

Fan Theory #8: He's just an emotional teenage brat who likes Hot Topic WAY too much.
Well... Yes, he is rather emotional. He has anger issues.

He and Hux act like kids fighting for the favor of a parent.

Snoke: *considers Hux's suggestion to attack the Republic*
Snoke: Good, General. Oversee preparations.
Kylo: *looks at Hux, irritated*
Hux: *meets Kylo's gaze and smirks*
Hux: (thinking) He gave me the important job. Ha!
Kylo: *glowers under mask*
Hux: (thinking) Yes! Points for Hux.

And he's not a teenager, he's 29.
Yes, he appears to have a fondness of the color black. Though that's probably because of his misplaced obsession with Darth Vader.

And he doesn't really handle all situations that well. But i will tell you the truth.

KYLO REN BREAKS MY HEART AND STOMPS IT INTO THE GROUND. HE WAS JUST A KID WHO MADE THE WRONG CHOICES. I BLAME SNOKE. I'LL BET IT KILLED HIM TO MURDER HAN. Just like it would probably kill him to face his mother. Have you even seen all the heartbreaking memes and Tumblr posts about the regret he faces? Doubtless, he'll come after Rey again to convince her to join him. Obsessive? Maybe. Again, he probably hasn't had a date in years. He's a bit desperate.

Ships!

Fan Theory #9: Rey/Finn Ship
YEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! He obviously likes her. And she kissed him at the end of the movie. I'll bet he was really awake and was just like YAY SHE KISSED ME after she left. They would do well together. In other words, I SHIP THIS SO MUCH. It's the good ship that no one feels guilty about. Fluff.

Fan Theory #10: Rey/Poe Ship
They haven't actually met at this point, though I'm sure they will eventually. They have a mutual friend in Finn, and in one of the last scenes of the movie, when the medics take Finn from the Millennium Falcon, Poe is with them and looks back at Rey as they walk away. Of course, they would eventually become friends anyway with Finn as their connection. And the TFA novelization describes their brief meeting. It was awkward. But I don't ship it.

Fan Theory #11: Rey/Kylo Ship
Y'all, this could work. Obviously, he would rather have Rey join him than be forced to kill her. What if she becomes his only pull to the light? He'll go after her, possibly under Snoke's orders. The Supreme Leader will want Kylo to kill Rey, but instead, he'll try to convince her to join him. She thinks he's a monster, he probably thinks she's the best/worst thing that's happened to him in years. He's very conflicted. On one hand, she pulls him to the light, so he tries to stay away, but he can't. He didn't have to go after her on Starkiller Base, but he had to try to convince her to join him. Poor guy can't make a decision. Honestly, the Reylo memes and Tumblr posts I've seen are heartbreaking. Of course, it wouldn't work if they were related. This is the ship that makes everyone feel guilty.
And people keep on hating on it. So this is what I say to you.

STOP BLOWING HOLES IN MY SHIP, PEOPLE.
Reylo lives on.

MEMES!!!!!! And other random stuff i found on Pinterest:

FOR REALS <--- you mean she grimaced angrily at you and you had never seen that expression before?? EXACTLY what I was thinking in the theater!:
Kylo Ren The Last Jedi:

Kylo are and Rey as cousins theory Theory accepted.---Although I believe in the Rey-is-a-Kenobi theory, if she's not, than that's the best explanation.:

The Heroes' Inheritance- Chapter Seven

May I present the latest installment of my WIP!

Chapter Seven

Prisoner

Mark heard Anduin’s footsteps coming towards him, and tried to climb to his knees, to reach for his sword, to do anything but lie there, completely helpless. Every time he moved, though, pain exploded in his torso, and he gasped for breath as he recovered.

Anduin stopped, and Mark felt the dragon’s hot breath on his face. He opened his eyes and saw Anduin on his right, walking slowly in a tight circle around him. The reptilian beast spoke in a voice so quiet Mark had to strain to hear his words.

“I remember the old days, when your father defended Liphaeum against the dragons and Dark Wizards,” Anduin said. “He was a mighty warrior, and many of my most faithful servants were slain by his hand. By human standards, he was an extraordinary fighter, and I wondered if his children would grow to be as exceptionally skilled as he was. Do you know where your father is now, Mark Farlander?” He continued without waiting for an answer. “He’s in the fortress of K’Raya, being tortured by Andrew Swiftviper. He will not be able to endure much longer. That is what your parents got for their meddling. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll forget about the wizards of Liphaeum altogether… though, judging from your attitude so far, you won’t be easily persuaded.”

He paused, and Mark saw the dragon’s head hovering over him. “How should I kill you?” he mused. “After the inconvenience you have caused me I think you should burn… but you should know how it feels to die by the claws of a dragon.” Anduin bared his teeth in something that vaguely resembled a terrifying, hungry grin. He lifted his right front leg and placed it on top of Mark’s body, pinning him down. Then he lifted the claws of his left front foot over Mark’s chest.

Time seemed to slow down. Anduin’s weight pressed down into Mark’s torso. He squeezed his eyes shut and cried out weakly with pain; then he sensed Anduin bringing his claws down. He would be skewered in four places, and he knew that it would be the most painful death imaginable.

He heard two people screaming, and dimly realized that one of the voices was his own. He wished for it to be over, for the pain to end. Death would be a mercy compared to this agony.

He heard a woman scream in denial, and sensed a rush of movement. He waited for the pain, but it never came; he dared to open his eyes and saw Anduin, his left leg dripping blood, mouth open in a long, deafeningly loud roar of pain. Mark realized that the dragon’s leg had been cleanly sliced off below the joint. He saw Mara standing there between him and Anduin, holding Mark’s sword in both hands. The blade dripped blood onto the ground.

Anduin whirled towards Mara, nostrils flaring, his yellow eyes filled with hatred. He started to step towards her, but she raised the sword again, and he stopped. “You will pay for this, Farlander,” he hissed. “You and your whole family will suffer for what you have done.” He turned to Tamar. “Come,” he growled, then launched himself into the sky. Tamar shot the twins a venomous glare, then followed.

All was silent for a long moment. Marianna and Adam stared at Mara, stunned. Then they seemed to notice why she had attacked Anduin. Marianna saw her nephew lying sprawled on the ground, and it felt like her heart nearly stopped altogether. “Oh, Father, no,” she whispered. She dropped her staff and rushed across the clearing, dropping to her knees beside Mark. His face was ashen, his eyes closed. For one horrible moment, Marianna thought he was dead. She pressed her hand gently to the center of his chest and waited. She sighed heavily as she felt a faint pulse. “He’s alive,” she breathed.

“William and one of his men are right behind me,” Mara told her.

Marianna looked at her niece, surprised. “Swiftviper came as well?”

“Yes, with nine men,” Mara replied. “I distracted them and led them into the yellow jackets’ nest in the woods. William’s still coming, though.”

Adam straightened. “Well, I’ll be here to meet him when he does.”

Marianna nodded. “Adam, give me your shirt.”

He nodded and stripped off his tunic. Marianna tore the thick cloth into strips and glanced at Mara. “I need to see his wound,” she said briefly.

Mara ripped open her brother’s blood-soaked tunic and inhaled sharply. “Oh, dear Father,” she gasped. Marianna finished tearing the fabric in her hands and swallowed, looking down at the wound. She could see three deep gashes in the flesh, caused by the spines of Anduin’s tail as they had slammed into Mark’s chest. “Mara, lift him, will you? Gently, now.”

Mara slid her hands under Mark’s back and lifted him several inches off the ground, grunting with effort as she did so. Marianna quickly wrapped one of the strips of cloth around Mark’s chest, covering the wound. The cloth quickly turned crimson as blood soaked into it. Marianna tied the makeshift bandage firmly over the wound, and Mark moaned softly in his sleep.

Quickly, they wrapped the remainder of the strips of cloth around the wound. The flow of blood ceased, and Marianna sighed, relieved. “He should be fine for now,” she said quietly.

“But not for long, sadly,” said a voice behind them. Marianna’s heart sank. She looked up and saw two black-clad warriors before them. Both held swords, and one had a bow slung across his shoulders. Or rather, her shoulders. The second figure was slimmer and slightly shorter than William, and she wore a black cloak, the hood of which she now threw back. The lower half of her face was covered by a black veil, and over the veil Marianna saw a pair of deep brown eyes peering down at Mark.

“Swiftviper,” said Adam, his voice cold. “What are you doing here?”

William smirked at him. “My father’s been in league with the dragons for decades.”

Mara stiffened. “Andrew Swiftviper. Of course,” she said, half to herself. She turned a frosty gaze on William. “Your father tortured my parents.”

“Ah yes,” he mused. “Actually, I believe he’s doing that at this very moment. Your parents have been less than voluntary when it comes to giving us information.”

“You’re outnumbered, Swiftviper,” said Adam. “Leave.”

William raised one eyebrow. “Says the shirtless runt who wouldn’t know a sword from a kitchen knife.” He allowed a scornful smile to cross his features. “I beg to differ. It is you who are outnumbered. Or have you not learned how to count, either?”

“You’d be surprised what those two can do when given the chance,” Adam replied, nodding to his mother and Mara, who were now standing. Marianna held her staff diagonally in front of her body, and Mara clutched her daggers in sweaty hands.

“You ambushed my men,” said William when he laid eyes upon Mara. “You’ll pay for that. Dearly.”

Adam promptly launched himself towards William, his sword raised.

The woman turned wordlessly towards Marianna, a long, slim sword in her hands. She raised the blade silently, and a duel began. Marianna knew that she wouldn’t last long. She had already been exhausted. Now, her limbs felt weak and her staff heavy in her hands.

Mara joined her, and Marianna backed off momentarily, breathing hard. She glanced towards Mark, and saw him stirring slightly. William and Adam, locked in battle, passed close by, and Marianna, seizing the golden opportunity, brought her staff down on William’s head with a loud crack. He dropped his sword, swayed unsteadily, then slumped to the ground with a soft moan.

“Adam, I want you to get Mark and head into the woods,” Marianna ordered as he nodded gratefully at her. “We’ll be along.”

He nodded, and sheathed his blade. Marianna’s eyes followed her son as he headed to where Mark lay, then she swallowed back the lump in her throat and went to help Mara.

For someone who had never handled the daggers, Mara was surprisingly good in close combat like this. She was quick on her feet and was able to easily evade her opponent’s blade. But the mysterious woman’s skill was apparent as she forced Mara backward, and Marianna quickly joined the fight, her staff landing hard on the woman’s shoulder.

“Mara, go with Adam,” she ordered. “I’ll take care of her myself.”

Mara nodded. Apparently she believed that Marianna could handle things, because she sheathed her daggers and ran off, following her cousin. Marianna sighed, and gave the now-recovered woman another whack, this time on the opposite arm, on the knuckles of her sword hand. The woman gasped in pain and dropped her sword, hissing out a curse. Another sound crack of the staff over her head sent her crumpling to the ground, senseless.

Marianna nodded in satisfaction. Apparently an old lady can fend for herself. Contrary to popular belief, that is. She smiled at the thought, imagining Adam gaping at her when she told him the story.

Then her smile slowly faded, for William was on his feet, his sword in his hand. “You’ll pay for that,” he hissed, approaching her.

The young woman slowly climbed to her feet, massaging the top of her head. She picked up her sword. “Drop your weapon,” she said quietly, a barely distinguishable eastern accent in her voice- Sinaian, perhaps. The dark eyes flickered with irritation. “You are defeated.”

Marianna realized that it was over. She was beaten. These two were master warriors, and she was a forty-year-old woman with nothing but a staff. She released her grip on the wood, and it felt to the ground with a thud. William stepped forward and snapped his fingers. A coil of rope materialized in his hand, but Marianna merely raised her eyebrows. She wasn’t surprised in the least. William’s father, Andrew Swiftviper, had been a notoriously powerful Dark Wizard. Of course William would have inherited the gift.

The woman kept her sword pointed towards Marianna as William bound her hands. “Will we go after the others?” she asked.

William yanked the rope tight, then straightened and shook his head. “No. We’ll come back for them later. Or Father will send the bewitched murlemas. Either way, they won’t last long.”

“They’ll make it to Liphaeum no matter what you do,” Marianna said quietly. “They’ll have help.”

“What are you talking about?” William demanded. “Help?”

“I sent a message to Liphaeum earlier this evening,” Marianna said, smirking at him. “Matthias knows about the children. He will help them.”

“Blast,” William muttered. He looked at the woman. “I’ll take her. You go find the men and follow me. Don’t engage.”

She nodded once and slipped into the trees, disappearing from view.

“You don’t know what you’re getting into,” Marianna grunted.

He met her gaze, and she saw in his dark eyes cold determination. “You’d be surprised.”

R-Rated Writing: Let's Rebel.

Hey folks. I know I posted just yesterday, but something recently came to my attention that I really need to talk about. For those of you who are accustomed to reading my lighthearted, sillier posts, I'm sorry.

I am a Christian writer, and part of being a Christian writer is that I try to communicate the Gospel of Christ in my writing and teach strong Christian morals through my characters. Of course, those of you have read my writing know that I don't usually incorporate direct Christian theology, but I use symbolism to communicate strong moral themes.

Being a writer, I also read. I love reading, and can finish a 300-page book in approximately a day. I've read some incredible stories in my decade of reading.
Unfortunately, some of those stories come along with something that I cannot condone.

Have you ever read an incredible story with strong characters and a gripping plot that you just really loved and didn't want to put down? You're so happy with the story up to the tenth chapter, then you turn the page and-
TWO CHARACTERS ARE MAKING OUT IN A PARKED CAR?!
Well, I certainly didn't see that coming.
In fact it hit me rather like this:
Maybe that's the only scene where something like that happens! I'll keep reading.
Twenty-eight pages later: They're making out. AGAIN. Oh my goodness, what is she doing? What is HE doing? Why am I reading this?
Very good question, my young reader friend.

Not only is the story riddled with trashy scenes, the author consistently uses the worst language on planet Earth (I think. I'm a little sheltered so I thankfully haven't heard everything.) Is it really that hard to write two sentences without inserting a swear of some kind?
We've all had this experience. Some great stories out there are filled with what I will from now on refer to as 'Muck.' Why?
Because every story has an author. And the authors are wrong. I'm sorry, but I must be blunt.
Ever read Tamara Pierce? She's a well-known YA fantasy author, and her stories are well-written and mostly clean. However, in her Lady Knight Quartet, she just had to incorporate a relationship. Lovely. This quartet is mostly clean except for a scene in book three, where... THE MAIN CHARACTER AND HER SORT-OF BOYFRIEND LITERALLY HAVE THEIR SHIRTS HALFWAY OFF?!!!!!!! This story was so incredibly good without that scene and the dozen kissing scenes in it! Pierce could literally have cut out just those trashy 'romantic' scenes and still have a complete story! WHY??!!?!?!
Is there anyone who genuinely likes to read Muck?
Here's part of the problem. I recently met an Indie author at an event. I asked her what age range she wrote for. She said that she wrote for older teenagers, and I asked why just older teenagers. Here's what she said. "Oh, some of the content is totally not stuff I could condone."

SO WHY ARE YOU WRITING IT? WHY ARE YOU PUTTING IT IN A BOOK WRITTEN FOR TEENAGERS???!!!
As a good friend of mine said, we, the teenage authors, are the new generation of writers. These YA authors we have now won't be around forever, and who will take their places when they're gone?
We will. Don't feel pressured to put bad stuff in your stories. Society has changed, has desensitized us to what is wrong. Some writers of young adult fiction say that they're 'writing for the age group.' WHADDAYA TALKIN ABOUT, WRITING FOR THE AGE GROUP? IF YOUR STORIES WERE MADE INTO MOVIES, THEY WOULD BE RATED ABOVE R! AND R-RATED MOVIES ARE RESTRICTED FOR PEOPLE UNDER EIGHTEEN! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?
We can choose to write stories with strong morals, or we can choose to write stories with Muck. You want to write fantasy? Well, write fantasy without sex scenes. You want to write Sci-Fi? Then write Sci-Fi without foul language. Even romance stories can be honoring to God. Authors such as Melanie Dickerson and Robin Jones Gunn do it all the time.
People say that teenagers are rebellious. And though I don't agree with many of the false stereotypes that adults place on teens, I agree with this one! I want to stand up for what I believe. I want the world to know that Elleanna Vines or Elena Iren, whichever name I use, is a Christian author who will refuse to put sexual scenes or foul language in my stories. I want to rebel. So stand up! Who will rebel with me?

Please, dear friends, leave a comment if you care about this. If you have a blog, or social media, will you please post about it? If you do, please let me know, and I can plug it here.
Gray at Writing Is Life wrote an incredibly inspiring post about this. Please read it!

Also, here are some clean novels and series that you can read. They aren't all Christian, but they don't have anything graphic. Christian series/books marked with *

-The Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan
-The Merlin Spiral by Robert Treskillard *
-Adventurers Wanted by M. L. Forman
-Artemis Fowl (I think there's literally one kiss in the entire series)
-The Hidden Doors trilogy by Wayne Thomas Batson *
-Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Kane Chronicles, and the Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan (His two newer series aren't as good. One has a gay character and the other has a transgender character. However, he doesn't praise the lifestyle.)
-Left Behind *(there's two series, one for adults and one for young adults, I've read both and they're incredible.)
-Warrior of the Son by Samuel Schiller*
-The MindWar trilogy by Andrew Klavan*
-The Homelanders series by Andrew Klavan

And here's some older ones:

-The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien *
-The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis *
-Sing Down the Moon by Scott O'Dell
-The Giver by Lois Lowry
-Wonder Book and Tanglewood Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne (this book is great, kind of a spinoff on Greek Mythology.)
-Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie
- Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery
-The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane
-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
-Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
-The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle

See y'all. Elena out.

I'm Back!!!

HOLY MOLY MACARONI AND CHEESE, I'm so sorry for being gone so long. With school and stuff, it was really hard to post anything. Hopefull...
